The word roti refer to many different kinds of Indian bread. It can be also called as chapati, phulka, poli, rotli or even naan. Roti is usually refer to the round flat bread made unleavened. It is simply and most oftenly made from wheat flour and cooked on a iron griddle which is called tawa. Tawa can be flat or slightly concave.
Roti is a staple accompaniment to other foods in India. It can be prepared with other flours also like, maize flour (makka), jowar flour, pearl millet (bajra), all purpose flour, nachni flour, even flour made from mixture of roasted and grind lentils. Chapatis are usually eaten with cooked dals, any cooked vegetable dish or with curries. It can also be simply consumed with any spread or rolled up with a filling. Even simply filled with stuffing and then cooked roti called paratha is very tempting!
