Ingredients:
1/2 cup urad dal
1 1/2 cups rice
1 tbsp oil
1/4 tsp mustard+cumin seeds
pinch of asafoetida
4-5 curry leaves chopped
1 tsp sugar
salt to taste
extra oil for greasing
Method: Soak dal and rice in water separately for about 3 to 4 hours. Grind separately until smooth batter like idli. Mix together and add salt. Keep overnight for fermentation.
Heat oil for seasoning and add mustard and cumin seeds. Add asafoetida and curry leaves. Now pour this seasoning on the batter. Add sugar and salt if needed. Mix gently. Heat the appe tava & add little oil. Pour the batter in the tava. When it is fried from one side, turn & let cook on other side.
Serve hot with green coconut chutney.
