Ingredients:
3-4 medium potatoes
1 onion finely chopped (Optional)
2/3 cup gram flour (besan)
oil for deep frying
2 pinch soda bi-carb
1/4 tsp mustard seeds
4-5 curry leaves
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
1/4 tsp red chilli powder
4-5 green chillies
1/4 tsp ginger paste
1/4 tsp garlic paste
1 lime (small)
coriander leaves to garnish
salt to taste
Method: Cook the potatoes until soft, peel and mash coarsely. Grind the green chillies, garlic, ginger.To make outer covering mix together gram flour,red chilli powder,soda bi-carb and salt to taste. Add water and make thick paste. Heat oil and add mustard seeds, after they splutter add the curry leaves and onion. Saute onion till it is light golden in color. Add the mixture of paste, turmeric powder. Now add this seasoning in mashed potatoes in separate bowl.Then add salt as per your taste and lemon juice. Mix well and let it cool for some time. Divide the potato mixture into equal sized portions, approximately the size of a lemon.Dip each ball in the batter and deep fry until golden brown in color.Serve hot with tamarind chutney.
